To meet the growing market demands and customer demands, our team has created an autonomous solution to monitor the availability of products on the shelves. This is a portable visual data collection system that has already shown its effectiveness in real retail projects. The finished product is ideal for retail, where speed, accuracy and process automation are important.
The lack of goods on the shelves - out of stock (OOS) is one of the key problems of retail: according to European analytical data, 8— 10% of store shelves remain empty, leading to a loss of up to 4% of turnover.
According to statistics, 70% of buyers after several unsuccessful attempts to find a product change the outlet.
Manual control takes up to 30 hours a week — it is inefficient and expensive.
• Autonomous fixation of photo and video materials with high detail.
• Transmission of information over the Internet regardless of location.
• Compact and low energy consumption for field conditions.
The complex is based on a single-board minicomputer with a connected USB camera and sensor, and access to the system is via a 4G modem. Thanks to this, the camera works autonomously, removes product shelves and transmits images to a remote server or cloud storage.
• Camera with color sensor that supports 30fps shooting.
• Mini-computer with a full set of software tools for image processing.
• 4G USB modem for stable network connection.
The camera captures images using the UVC driver. The software automatically adjusts sensor parameters (exposure, scale, white balance), followed by image processing — noise filtering, quality optimization, and H.264/H.265 compression. Data is then transmitted to the cloud over a PPP or PPPoE connection using HTTPS.
The web interface or REST API gives full control over the device remotely.
• Video and photo shooting with a resolution of up to 5 megapixels.
• Adjusting the exposure, white balance and digital processing parameters of the OV5693 sensor via SCCB protocol.
• Digitally zoom and crop the image right at the software or sensor driver level.
• Synchronize and transfer data to remote storage.
• It is possible to power from an autonomous Power Bank without connection to the mains.
The automated system of accounting for the availability of goods on the shelves is an effective solution for retail networks, which allows you to optimize the laborious process of controlling the laying out of products in the hall. Due to its mobility, low energy consumption and the ability to work without constant power, the system is conveniently installed both in large shopping centers and in small local stores.
The tool significantly reduces the risk of loss due to empty shelves, allows you to quickly identify problems with laying out, and improves the quality of customer service. This is a next-generation digital solution that helps increase the productivity of the retail business and is proven to be reliable in practice.
• Hypermarkets and supermarkets
• FMCG Stores
• Pharmacies
• Cosmetics and business networks
• Fast food establishments
• Coffee and food courts in shopping malls, train stations, airports
• Self-service areas, refrigerators, coffee machines
• Boutiques with a narrow range
• Small and medium point format
• Darksters, hubs and online stores for inventory and equipment control
Shelf monitoring automation is more than just a convenience — it's a way to reduce losses, improve operational efficiency, and deliver a better shopping experience. The system has already proven its value in real-world retail environments and represents a key component of digital transformation for modern stores.
