Information exchange between company divisions as well as with clients and partners is organized mostly via convenient and inexpensive public communication channels. Connecting to such unprotected channels creates threats:

violation of confidentiality of information transmitted between corporate network units

wiretapping, interception, unauthorized familiarization and dissemination

disturbing the integrity of transmitted information

malicious modification, falsification, corruption and/or destruction
To protect information transmitted over open networks and communication channels from wiretapping, substitution and distortion, virtual protected networks (VPN) should be built.
A VPN allows setting up an integrated safety loop joining all the units of a corporate network (the head office, divisions and mobile users). The entire traffic transmitted between the subscribers of a protected network over open channels is encoded. For this, VPN gateways are installed at the point of connection of unit virtual networks to open networks, and VPN client software is installed on workstations connected via dedicated or switched lines.
